Hannah Wittman is a Professor jointly appointed in the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability and the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and a member of the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems and Biodiversity Research Centre at UBC. Her research examines the ways that the rights to produce and consume food are contested and transformed through struggles for agrarian reform, food sovereignty, and agrarian citizenship. Her projects include community-based research on transitions to agroecology, organic agriculture, and more diversified agroecosystems, and the synergies between biodiversity conservation, food security, and food sovereignty in diverse global contexts.
