Diane Srivastava is a Professor in the Department of Zoology and the Biodiversity Research Centre at UBC. In her research, she focuses on fundamental questions in community ecology, including those that help develop the theoretical basis of conservation. She investigates how the interaction of spatial and trophic processes determines which species occur within food webs, as well as how species loss from these food webs can affect the way ecosystems function. Her lab addresses these questions through a combination of experiments, surveys, and geographically-extensive data syntheses, using the aquatic food webs in tropical bromeliads as a model system.
