Jessica is a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Zoology studying the ecology of serpentine grassland species under the supervision of Dr. Rachel Germain. She is interested in understanding the spatial and temporal mechanisms that support species coexistence and how these mechanisms (or the break down of these mechanisms) interact to influence biodiversity and the processes of community assembly and disassembly. Specifically, she studies how the frequency and duration of drought affects community and population dynamics to better understand biodiversity loss and develop strategies for preserving species and ecosystems at-risk due to climate change.
