Top Three Research Questions on Biodiversity Solutions and Sustainable Coexistence of People and Nature

1. Helping communities to steer their landscapes towards equitable outcomes that improve livelihoods – eliminate poverty – whilst maintaining biodiversity values in tropical regions.

2. Understanding patterns of social and environmental change in biodiversity hotspots subject to major external investments in industries and infrastructure.

3. Using varieties of artistic expression to bridge gaps in understanding between diverse stakeholder groups in tropical landscapes.

Bio

Jeffrey Sayer is a Professor in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences. His research focuses on integrated approaches to natural resources management, landscape management approaches and integrating science into natural resources decision making. Current work includes studies of development and change in Indonesian forest landscapes, the political ecology of forest restoration in Indonesia, particularly mangroves, forest transitions in Cameroon and the Congo basin, and organization and management of science to support sustainable development and biodiversity conservation.
