Dr. Helina Jolly, our esteemed host, is the visionary behind the captivating podcast “Biodiversity Speaks,” a collaborative effort with IBioS. With a remarkable background as an interdisciplinary scientist, Dr. Jolly has dedicated over a decade to unraveling the complexities of the human-nature relationship in Indigenous landscapes. Her illustrious career has taken her across three continents, where she has contributed in various capacities, including as a researcher, advisor to government entities, and development agencies. Dr. Jolly’s expertise has garnered her recognition as a National Geographic Explorer , Public Speaker, and Documentary Maker.Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Jolly finds solace in the realm of art, passionately expressing herself through painting.

Liam Read

Liam Read, the editor of “Biodiversity Speaks,” brings a unique blend of talents and expertise to the podcast. He is a University of British Columbia alumnus and past technician of the School of Music’s recording team. After completing his master’s degree in songwriting and production at Berklee NYC, Liam began his graduate fellowship and continues work on his debut album that explores the intersection between natural and urban soundscapes.

Emma Jarek-Simard

Emma Jarek-Simard, a dedicated undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus, is currently pursuing her studies in biology. With a keen interest in wildlife and natural resource conservation, Emma’s passion lies in understanding and safeguarding biodiversity as a whole. In her role as administrative and planning personnel for “Biodiversity Speaks,” Emma plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and organization of the podcast. Her commitment and enthusiasm contribute to the success of the show, as she works behind the scenes to bring valuable content to our listeners.
