Dr. Juliet Lu is a member of our newly hired cluster, and joins UBC as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Forest Management and School for Public Policy and Global Affairs. She is a political ecologist focused on the implications of China’s growing investments in land and other resources in Southeast Asia and beyond. Her research examines conflicts around transnational land investments, the promotion of monoculture plantations at the expense of more biodiverse production systems, and the rise of private sector sustainable governance initiatives, with a focus on rubber trees.
