Dates: Tuesday, February 3rd and 10th
Time: 4 – 5 PM
Location: BRC, #1014/1024 (Multipurpose Room)
IBioS invites all graduate students to participate in discussions between experienced researchers about “Shared Goals, Shared Outcomes: Partnerships Beyond the University” and “Experiences in Community-Based Research.” This is meant to be a give-and-take discussion where students are given the opportunity to share their thoughts on these topics.
Feb 3: Shared Goals, Shared Outcomes: Partnerships Beyond the University
Impactful research often doesn’t happen in isolation–it can greatly benefit from relationships with non-academic organizations working on the ground. This session will allow faculty and students to talk candidly about collaboration beyond academia, including its challenges, rewards, and how to do it successfully.
Panelists:

Research Associate, UBC Institute for oceans and Fisheries, IUCN

Associate Professor, UBC Sauder

Associate Professor, Centre for Sustainable Food Systems, Department of Land and Food Systems, Biodiversity Research Centre
Feb 10: Experiences in Community-Based Research
Community-based research is about working with communities, not just in them. This panel will bring together three panelists to share their experiences with community engagement and participatory research. They will reflect on the challenges they have faced, the lessons they have learned, and the moments that made the work meaningful.
